Water for Emergencies There's no getting around it - the Bay Area is in for another major earthquake. In fact, experts recently predicted a 70% chance for one or more magnitude 6.7 or greater earthquakes occurring in the Bay Area within the next 30 years. Are you prepared to weather such a disaster? While ACWD's disaster preparedness efforts include extensive measures to protect the water system from damage during an earthquake, breaks in water lines will undoubtably occur. In addition, there is really no way to predict which areas will be damaged and without normal water supply following an earthquake. That's why one of the most important things you can do to get ready for an earthquake (or any other disaster) is to store an adequate amount of emergency drinking water. You can survive weeks without food, but only a few days without water. Please check out our "Emergency Preparedness FAQs" to help you be "water-wise" and prepared for the next earthquake or disaster.
