Drought Tolerant Gardening
ACWD’s Bay-Friendly Demonstration Garden
Demo Garden Path

Alameda County Water District (ACWD) partnered with Rescape to design a demonstration garden located at ACWD Headquarters in Fremont, CA that incorporates a holistic approach to gardening. This garden demonstrates plant types and landscaping designs that are recommended by ACWD and Rescape for both our commercial and residential customers. This demonstration garden has been designed to reduce irrigation demand through the use of native and drought tolerant plant species. Enjoy a visit today or review this page to find the perfect plant or discover ways to survive life after lawn!

Come see what all the buzz is about or read what people are saying about our garden.

The map above depicts our garden, designed to offer visitors ideas for both residential turf replacement projects and commercial landscape renovations. Some highlights of the garden include a stormwater capture basin, large native shrubs and trees, climate adapted plants, low energy use light fixtures, and weather based irrigation controllers. Join us in enjoying this drought tolerant garden.

In the Bay Area, they focus on the San Francisco Bay Watershed through the Bay-Friendly Rated Landscapes Program. Bay Friendly Rated Landscape practices are based on seven principles which foster soil health and conserve water and natural resources while reducing waste and preventing pollution.
