- Niles Cone Groundwater Basin Extraction Site
Saltwater intrusion is a legacy of past groundwater over pumping of the Niles Cone Groundwater Basin. ACWD is conducting a groundwater study to collect data on the subsurface aquifer system to assist in groundwater modeling and assess water quality in this area. The data is being collected to evaluate the health of our groundwater basin and judge if the area is suitable for saltwater removal.
Three locations 1) Civic Center Park (City of Newark), Cedar Court (City of Newark), and Blacow Road at Brophy Drive (City of Fremont).
A Request for Proposals (RFP) has been issued to well drilling contractors for the installation of 11 wells distributed among the three locations. The project is expected to be awarded in July 2021.
The CEQA Notice of Exemption was adopted by the ACWD Board of Directors on May 14, 2020, and filed with the State Clearinghouse for the public comment period extending from May 16, 2020, through June 16, 2020. The public review draft may be reviewed at the link below:
