Hello Educators & Parents

We've created an educational resource page featuring free water education materials to support and supplement learning about important water topics.  We also offer online resources,  a free water education school assembly and water education training for teachers in Fremont, Newark and Union City schools.
Project WET Training 10.21

FREE Training for Tri-City Educators

Sign up today and learn how you can simplify your science curriculum with Project WET's ready-made water education lesson plans! This day of free training also includes a tour of ACWD's new fish ladder facilities along Alameda Creek. This training features:

Interactive STEM lessons/activities for classrooms taught by Project WET Coordinator

Award-winning, NSTA-recommended Project WET Curriculum and Activity Resource Guide 2.0 (K-12)

Ability to earn CEU credits

Educational resources supported by NGSS/CA Common Core

Educators will also tour the installation of ACWD's newly completed fish ladder along the lower section of Alameda Creek. The fish ladder is part of the Lower Alameda Creek Fish Passage Program - an $80 million investment spanning two decades of multi-agency partnership to protect the environment and wildlife of the creek and ensure water supply reliability for the people of Fremont, Newark and Union City. Teachers will get a behind-the-scenes look at ACWD's installation of state-of-the-art fish screens, ladders and technology to enhance the migration conditions of steelhead trout, a threatened fish species.

Tour details: Participants should be prepared and able to walk on a trail for five minutes to the tour facility location. The tour is approximately 45 to 60 minutes and will require standing, walking and climbing stairs. Flat, closed-toe shoes are required and weather-appropriate attire (jackets, hats, comfortable clothing and sunscreen) should be worn because the tour is conducted outdoors.

ACWD Virtual Tour: Fish Passage Projects in Alameda Creek
Catch a recording of the tour here and join Anna, the steelhead trout, with ACWD friends, for a fun and educational up-close look at our fish passage projects in Alameda Creek!

Every attendee has the best seat in the house as we take you down into the creek bed and alongside the installation of a state-of-the-art fish ladder and give you a behind-the-scenes look at the operation of one of our inflatable rubber dams and first fish ladder, fish screens and water diversion pipelines. Tour-goers will get a near fish-eye-view of the journey Anna, the steelhead trout, will be able to take once our projects are complete.

These projects have been decades in the making, with the help of our many partners, and are now nearing completion. We'll show the magnitude of these $78 million dollar projects (with partner support and grants) designed to allow threatened steelhead trout, like Anna and other fish species, to migrate easily and safely upstream and downstream. The project will also allow ACWD to maintain reliable water supplies for residents and businesses in Fremont, Newark and Union City. Following the 45-minute tour is  a 15-minute Q&A session with ACWD staff.
