ACWD offers Project WET (Water Education Today) training featuring fun, interactive NGSS curriculum and activities. Teachers preview and practice in-class lessons applicable for K-12 classrooms in every subject area. Past trainings have also included a tour of our water treatment facility and continuing education credit is available. This workshop is for educators from schools in Fremont, Union City and Newark. If you are interested in participating in a future Project WET workshop hosted by the Alameda County Water District, please sign up here. You will be contacted when the next workshop is scheduled.
ACWD Virtual Tour: Fish Passage Projects in Alameda Creek |
---|
Catch a recording of the tour here and join Anna, the steelhead trout, with ACWD friends, for a fun and educational up-close look at our fish passage projects in Alameda Creek! Every attendee has the best seat in the house as we take you down into the creek bed and alongside the installation of a state-of-the-art fish ladder and give you a behind-the-scenes look at the operation of one of our inflatable rubber dams and first fish ladder, fish screens and water diversion pipelines. Tour-goers will get a near fish-eye-view of the journey Anna, the steelhead trout, will be able to take once our projects are complete. These projects have been decades in the making, with the help of our many partners, and are now nearing completion. We'll show the magnitude of these $78 million dollar projects (with partner support and grants) designed to allow threatened steelhead trout, like Anna and other fish species, to migrate easily and safely upstream and downstream. The project will also allow ACWD to maintain reliable water supplies for residents and businesses in Fremont, Newark and Union City. Following the 45-minute tour is a 15-minute Q&A session with ACWD staff. |
